Best Ultra Run Experience:

Marathon of the Sands, April 2000
The camaraderie of the athletes from around the world made this race an incredible experience.

Weird Experience:

American Cancer Society, 8 hour race, Ames, IA., February 2000 I ran this race, with a 20 lbs. backpack, as a training run for the Marathon of the sands race. It was ran on an indoor track in which 5.25 laps equaled 1 mile. In the 8 hour time frame, I ran 221 laps which equals a little over 42 miles. Talk about a killer track workout!

Challenge:

Marathon of the Sands, April 2000 Morrocco (Sahara Desert) The race itself was challenging because it was 150 miles in 7 days thru the Sahara Desert. To add to the difficulty each runner had to carry all of their food and clothing for the week in a backpack. The extreme conditions of the race made it the most physically and mentally challenging race I have ever ran.

Why:

Running gives me a great sense of balance in my life. I enyoy running ultras because they allow me to test and reset my physical an mental limits.

Why badwater:

For the challenge as well as the opportunity to meet some unique individuals.
