Best Ultra Run Experience:

1999 Marathon des Sables. I experienced the camaraderie of an ultra event for the first time, the race made me realise how much further the body and mind can be pushed when the motivation is there. This is something that has stood me in good stead almost every day since that race.

Weird Experience:

Following 2000 Badwater race having not completed and being torn between envy and pity for the racers still competing. At the same time feeling bad for my crew who had come a long way yet didn't get to test themselves how they wanted to.

2000 Badwater Ultra. The course blew me apart, my inexperience in hydrating correclty showed through, still my crew and I stayed with the race, made some friends and hopefully picked up a lot of useful information and ideas for next year.

Ultras stretch me mentally and physcially in a way that benefits me in everyday life. Combined with this the camaraderie and friendship have a magnetic pull that gets me coming back for more.

Why badwater:

Originally I wanted to race Badwater to experience the friendship and atmosphere talked about so passionately by Lisa Smith when I met her. With a DNF in last year's race I now want to come back with a lot more respect for the course and try and complete the race.

Other Exp.:

Placed 4th in the 2000 Odyssey Off-Road Triathlon in Virginia.
