Best Ultra Run Experience:
Angeles Crest, 2000. Meeting another inexperienced ultrarunner, like myself, during the first AC training run and fostering a friendship that carried us to the finish line together. Also, seeing my friends show up at all hours, with nothing but enthusiasm.
Posing for the "Best Buns" photo at Little Harbor in Catalina and finding out later that I won.
No doubt, AC 100 this year. Kept me on my feet three times longer than I ever have. I learned how to deal with running with all kinds of blisters.
I have been running road races all around the Los Angeles area for a dozen years and found everyone to be out for themselves. When I got to the sixth mile of the Avalon Benefit 50, my ITB started to hurt. I have never received so much support from other runners before. The ultra community has such great commraderie, it keeps you coming back. Who needs to see a shrink?
I like to challenge myself. I think the progression from 50K to 50 miles to 100 miles are nice steps up the latter. It only seems fitting to move up to the ultimate challenge. I figure the more miles I am out there, the more scenery I get to see.
Yes. I have worked with a non-profit organization called Nature of Wildworks for several years. They house wild native and exotic animals that can't be released back into the wild. I will raise money to better enrich their living environment.
