Best Ultra Run Experience:

Greatest accomplishment: Badwater 1997. Nothing like it before or since.
Best Performance: Coyote 4 Play 2000. Best placing and managed to run entire last day with bad stress fracture wrapped in duct tape.

Weird Experience:

Badwater 1997: I thought I saw the Mars Pathfinder!

Challenge:

Badwater 2000: Ran well for first 12 hours, then the wheels came off. I struggled after that, throwing up, passing out twice (I don't remember either time!), and pissing blood, all of which slowed me to a crawl and made me want to quit- It was a challenge just to finish what I had started, but I made it.

Why:

Because they are a 'gut check', to see if, on a given day, I have the "right stuff". Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but the gut check lies in having the guts to make the attempt.

Why badwater:

It is THE ULTIMATE GUT CHECK!
