Badwater Prediction:

40 to 50 Hour Finish Time. EVIDENCE: My last 100 mile race in November was the best 100 mile performance of my 100 mile running career. I reduced my past best 100 mile time (23:18), buy over an hour and a half, to (21:45). I attribute this improvement to much experimentation, and the refinent of an effective fuel and pacing strategy that works for me. I am at the top of my game. Secondly I believe the number of 100's completed, my finish times, and the frequency of my 100 mile events, clearly demonstrates my ability as an endurance runner. Thirdly, When I measure my running capabilities with other runners who I have had direct personal running experiences with, and who have also recently completed Badwater, I am absolutely confident that I can sucessfully complete the Badwater event.

Challenge:

In my very first 100 mile ultra, (Rocky Racoon 1999), at about mile 30, I tripped over a tree root badly twisting my ankle. After limping to the next aide station I wrapped the ankle with duct tape to hold down the swelling, and continued on to finsh the race with a time of 25:14. Upon my return home , Xrays at the hospital identified that I had completed the final 70 miles of the ultra on a broken ankle. I was very determined to finish my first 100 ultra, and I did.

Why badwater:

I want to achieve something beyond just completing 100 mile ultras. At 60 years old, and having just completed my fastest 100 miler ever, now is the time.
