Badwater Prediction:

Between 40 & 50 hours: Last year, I lost 4 hours working on feet problems & feel I have rectified that problem. I have covered greater mileage & worked on speed training since August. I have a more thorough & calculated plan for this year's race, as I will be doing an out & back. I will also be fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society again & hope more mileage will result in more dollars donated to The Society.

Weird Experience:

1998, 6.5 hours, Blue Springs MO

My first 50K, because I could not believe that an extra five miles could be so daunting. I have not had such a difficult experience since my first ultra.

Challenge:

As previously mentioned, my first 50K, because it was a new experience for me. However, the 2001 Badwater Ultra has been my most challenging & rewarding event to date.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Why:

I want to see how far I can go, & through my endeavors, I can raise money for a cause I believe in--The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I also believe through ultras, I demonstrate to my team that running a marathon is a small task compared to the work the pateints do, for whom we run in honor of through The Society.

Why badwater:

The 2001 event was the most incredible experience I have had--the scenery, the camaraderie, the challenge--it was a most unique time in my life. I also love the desert!

Media:

The Kansas City Star in KC MO & The Johnson County Sun in Kansas covered the story last year. With the greater challenge I am taking on--the out & back & the $10K fundraising goal--I expect more extensive coverage for 2002.

Charity:

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, because I am going into my fourth year of coaching for the MidAmerica Chapter of Team in Training and support their mission. I see the benefits of the monies raised, through the patient programs and gains in current research for blood-related cancers.
