Previous Badwater Racing:
I ran Badwater in 97. I finished around 50 plus hours I believe. Despite being out of the run for 7 hours with dehyrdation problems. I managed to get back on the route and make it. Hi Tech was the Race Organization back then. I did run (crawl) to Mt Whitney and back if that means anything.
Previous Badwater Crewing: Badwater Ben was my teacher. mentor. I learned the ropes from him and his wife. I helped crew also and get my ears wet by that experience. You learn to listen to your body and respect the heat dog! It can destroy you if you let or it can work with you if you run with your head and not your legs!
Previous Badwater Clinic June 97 i attened Ben's training clincs. They were great! I enjoy running the course. I recommend this. Meeting the runners were great also.

Badwater Prediction:

My target is to run between 40 hours and 50. I honestly feel I have a shot at it. 40 hours I like a lot better. This is a real goal to aim for.

Weird Experience:

Geee, I have many. Running Badwater in 97 and looking back down from Towne pass and seeing the heat waves raising from the road as if they were happy they to have me bake in their oven. I thought I heard the desert rats laughing at me while running through Wheeler.

Challenge:

All Ultras are a Challenge. Every one is unique just as Ultramarathoners are. Running around a track for 6 days was not easy and crazy to do.. Lost Boys 50 was tough. Baldy Peaks can kick your butt. Running across Europe was full of challenges also. Badwater is probably my tougherst one or in the top 5!

Why:

The people you meet. The good friends you make. Ultrarunners our in a Class by themselves. They truly amaze me on what they can do. A true class of people with big hearts and mettle. We have a gift. it's an honor to run these and help good causes along the way. I am very humble about that. The scnery is part of it. You come out stronger and better doing ultramarathons. No question. An Very Spiritual road we take. Also I like the food you get at the aid stations, quite good Better (than I can make!) and the happy caring voulnteers you meet.

Why badwater:

It's you and the heat. You and the desert Gods of Death Valley. Will you win or will they be kind to you and help you finish??? There is nothing quite like it. You either survive or don't. This ain't no cookies and tea run with mother waiting for you to come home for dinner..
