Previous Badwater Racing: 2001 DNF. I had a great race going up to Stovepipe Wells. I was in 1st place in my wave 1/2 way between Furnace Creek and Stovepipe. I underestimated the intensity of the sun. I have thought of some methods to combat the sun in 2002 and am determined to finish strong this year.
Previous Badwater Crewing: Only a participant in 2001.

Badwater Prediction:

Under 40 hours. I was under this time with the pace I had going up to Stovepipe Wells. I had problems with the sunlight but did not take enough precautions to get through it. I feel confident that I have come up with the solution to get through it this year. The pace was not the issue. I feel very comfortable running 8 - 9 minute mile pace and have trained accordingly to hold that pace for a long period of time.

Weird Experience:

2001 Badwater. The vastness of the area around me and the harsh conditions. Watching the other runners and their stories was a truly amazing experience. It is something I will never forget.

Challenge:

2001 Badwater. The pace was not difficult but the intensity of the sun was. I was drinking plenty of fluids but I could feel my body being "cooked" on the pavement. Truly a difficult experience to get through.

Why:

The people that I meet in these events are truly the nicest in the world. I love the challenge and the friendships made in the course of a couple of days. I am hooked on Badwater and will try to participate for as many years as I can!
