Badwater Prediction:

Under 40 hours. Ran a 33:57 in 1999. Average for my four Badwater races is 40 hours.

Weird Experience:

I was escorted by a group of Yeti beasts and huge low flying prehistoric birds on the Whitney Portal Road during the 2000 Badwater Race. Everyone said I was just hallucinating, but I know better. Watch for these guys they will be waiting by the switchbacks.

Challenge:

The 2000 Badwater Race. I had trained very hard with the intent of running a sub 30 hour race. I injured myself a month before the race and ran it anyway. After two days of incredible heat and pain I was able to finish in 43 hours.

Why:

They are spiritually, emotionally and physically cleansing. To show that you can do anything, regardless of age, if you stay physically conditioned and mentally alert.

Why badwater:

1. The greatest satisfaction in my little running world is when I cross the finish line at this most extraordinary race.
2. To run with all my friends and heroes.
3. Incredible hallucinations.
4. The privelege of running through all the beauty that is in Death Valley

During the last 24 years I have run in dozens of ultras and have covered the marathon distance (mostly in training runs) over 400 times. I average 15 miles every day and recently passed the 120,000 mile mark. I run all my races for children's charities.
