My Badwater Finishing Prediction:

Under 40 hours. In each of the qualifying events, I finished at /or near the top of my age group category or within the top 10 overall....which will probably mean less than the fact that I am a very fast crawler! The distance is new territory for me and I know the heat will be a big factor, my plan is to just keep moving forward!!

My Weirdest Experience:
I don't really have a weird experience, but if you ask my non- ultra running friends, they think all the races I have done are weird experiences!!

My Most Challenging Race Experience:
My most challenging race experience was a 50 mile run from Naramata to Kelowna and back through Wild Horse Canyon in British Columbia. I had participated in a 100km race the weekend before, but had to drop out because of plantar fascitis pain. I felt so disappointed in myself for not completing the 100km, I decided to do this 50 mile trail run to prove to myself that I wouldn't give up again. I had heard it was a hard run, but I had no idea how hard it would be, especially on pretty tired legs. I just remember saying to myself, never drop out again, look what you have to go through later!

Why I Run Ultras:

I run ultras and race Ironman because of the physical and mental challenges they present to me. Each time I undertake one of these events, I look forward to seeing how far I can push myself to achieve my goals. Each race is different and each one has taught me a little more about myself and the power of the mind.

Why I want a slot on the start line of the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon:

The reason I want to compete in the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon is because I feel this is the ultimate physical and mental challenge. I have wanted to do this race for several years, and I was especially motivated to do it after Steve King did so well in the 2001 Badwater race. That plus Steve's account of how wonderful this race is, how well organized it is, how great the people are and what an incredible experience it is to complete this event. Steve and his wife Jean will be part of my crew and I know they are looking forward to returning for another Badwater experience.
