My Badwater Finishing Prediction:

Between 40 and 50 hours. I think this is possible because of my times in my previous 100 mile races (Western States 29:41 and Angeles Crest 31:14. I live in Southern Calif not far from Palm Springs and love to run in the heat, 100 degrees is great.

My Weirdest Experience:

I'm sorry but I don't have any real wierd ultra running experiences. But really, my friends and the kids I coach think I'm wierd for running the ultra races.

My Most Challenging Race Experience:

Western States in 2002 was my most challenging ultra. I had to DNF at mile 55 because of stomach problems, that's a nice way to say it. I had never DNF before and it took more courage to stop than to go on. I learned more from that race than previous races.

Why I Run Ultras:

I like to be out of my comfort zone. To push to the edge. To set goals and train for those goals. To look back after the race and say "yes".

Why I want a slot on the start line of the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon:

I like to run in the heat, but can I do it in the oven. I can go 100, but can I go 135. This race is way out of the "good zone" so the training and the goals have to be set for this race. It's the challenge.

My Other Ultrasport Experience:

So far if it not on my feet, I don't compete.

Media that I will represent or write for:

Yes, I'm writing a book on ultra running as a parable to the Christian life. In Hebrews 12:1 it says..Run with endurance the race that is set before us.. The Badwater Ultra would make several great chapters in the book, "RUN WITH ENDURANCE, COURAGE"

Media that will cover my experience in this race:

My son Jim will be producing a black and white photo series on the race. Some of the photos will be used in the above book.

The Charity that I will represent and raise funds for is:

Yes. I would enjoy raising funds of the Challenged Athletes Foundation. I coach cross-country and track and field at Arrowhead Christian Academy and would like to get my runners involved in a fun raiser.
