My Badwater Finishing Prediction:

I hope to finish in just under 60 hours. I have probably deteriorated something like 10 hours slower in 10 years.

My Weirdest Experience:

I have always enjoyed the transition from being a technonerd at the start of Badwater and seeing how long it takes to get into a zen mode. It is usually around 100 miles. I haven't experienced the dramatic hallucinations others have but have enjoyed not remembering 10-mile sections which have occurred at night in the Darwin area. I guess doing an autopsy during Badwater 1991 might count as being weird as well as using a casket as a prop along with my traveling oasis. House calls and Adopt-A-Highway clean up during the race has always kept me busy.

My Most Challenging Race Experience:

Badwater has always been my biggest challenge. I have also had challenging experiences doing: the first Kilimanjaro marathon, the 100-mile Himalaya Trek/Run, the first Antarctic marathon, as well as marathons in Reykjavik (Iceland), Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Sweden), and Berlin (when the "wall" came down, etc. See resume.

Why I Run Ultras:

I do ultras because I have pretty good endurance and less speed all the time. I enjoy meeting the participants in the longer runs and make an adventure out of my endeavors.

Why I want a slot on the start line of the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon:

I want to be the first person over age 70 (B.D. 12-26-1932) to complete the course. No one else has tried it at this age.

My Other Ultrasport Experience:

See resume. I have done two in-line skate marathons and a half dozen XC ski marathons and 10 DV/Whitney 100-mile bike races.

Media that I will represent or write for:

PBS/Travel is interested in covering the clinic(s) and probably also the Race itself. I have offered to help them (Gianna Savoie, et al) with their endeavors. Mel Stuart might be interested in cutting sown the 1999 version of "Running On The Sun."

Media that will cover my experience in this race:

Perhaps the PBS/Travel people will tag along and, if so I will be glad to perform for them.

The Charity that I will represent and raise funds for is:
