My Badwater Finishing Prediction:

Between 40 and 50 hours. Have finished in this range twice, in 1997 and 2002. Can possibly break 40 if my stomach holds!

My Weirdest Experience:

Badwater 1997: Zoned in and out, bled down both legs due to chaffing, had to sidestep last 10 miles due to knee hyperextension.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
My Most Challenging Race Experience:

Wasatch 1994: First ultramarathon. Suffered stress fracture by 50 mile point. Kept going. Got hypothermia that night. Kept going. Crossed finish line in tears with fractured tibia.

Badwater 2000: Ran well for about 50 miles, then began vomiting. Still at top of Townes pass at dawn of 2d day. Kept going. Passed out twice later that day. Kept going. Blood in urine coming into Lone Pine. Kept going. Not a pretty race, but a kill's a kill: Never say die!

Why I Run Ultras:

Challenge. Finding something beyond known abilities and going after it. Past performance is NO gaurantee of success in any ultra. I do not run ultras because I am any sort of good runner: I do them for the challenge and sense of accomplishment when I manage to finish one.

Why I want a slot on the start line of the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon:

It is the hardest of all the races I have attempted. I can't stay away.

The Charity that I will represent and raise funds for is:

None planned, although I am willing. It would mean more if my efforts, sweat, and blood went to help someone besides myself.
