My Badwater Finishing Prediction:

Under 40 Hours. At least six hours faster than my 2001 Badwater race. Over the past 2 years all of my race times have improved significantly. I have more experience running ultras than I did two years ago and I also have an experienced crew.

My Weirdest Experience:

My weirdest ultrarunning experience is still from my first 100 mile race in Huntsville State Park. A little sheep dog named Little Buddy ran along beside me for the last few miles. Then I came over a hill, running out of the woods in the middle of the night, and my boss was standing there waiting for me. He said something like "there you are...I knew you could do it...come on let's go." Little Buddy disappeared and my boss, Mark, ran the last mile with me. The dog was an illusion but Mark was real. I've never been so glad to see my boss.

My Most Challenging Race Experience:

Again, that first 100 miler was probably my most challenging race ever. It was my first and it was dang cold that night. I hate the cold. Finishing the race was as mentally challenging as it was physically painful.

Why I Run Ultras:

I started running ultras because I had run marathons and ironman races and ultras seemed like the next logical challenge. I continue to run them because I love the comradery. I've never been alone during one of these races. There has always been a friend, family member or other racer there to offer support. It's cool to be a part of that type of team effort.

Why I want a slot on the start line of the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon:

I want to go back and see the desert and enjoy the heat and I want to climb to the top of Mt. Whitney.

My Other Ultrasport Experience:

I have done a few triathlons. My first triathlon of any distance was a 1998 Motreal ironman distance race. In 1999 I finished the inaugural Lake Placid and Florida Ironman events. I finished each race in roughly 12 Hours and 30 Minutes and I usually placed near the bottom of my age group.
