Previous Badwater Racing Experience: Badwater 2002 was my best BW and perhaps one of my best ever ultra runs. Things fell in place for me. I survived the heat and manged a decent time from my 97 time of 55 hours to 43 hours on this past BW 2002. This is one amazing race. I had a good race. No blisters, chafing, sickness. Almost perfect with the exception of the last 13 miles. It was a struggle for me. It all caight up to me on that last stretch!

Previous Badwater Crewing Experience: I learned a lot in BW 2002. The training Clinics are amazing and really help you a lot i this race. It was a successful action to do. I learned you have to treat BW with much respect and have a good mind set on this run. It will chew you up so fast if you let. A good crew is vital. Patience. Believing in yourself and doing the training, a must!

Previous Badwater Clinic Experience: Ditto on this: Ben and Denise put a terrfic clinic. I highly recommend attending. You learn a lot and your connected to the course which is important and you connect up with the BW runners. You really feel their energy and desire. It's so cool to meet these men and women who have a common goal to finish and conqueor BW!

My Badwater Finishing Prediction:

Having gotten a 43 hour and change time in 2002. I personally feel I can lower the bar to a 38-36 hour time. This is real to me. Providing my training goes well and I am in the "zone" and the BW gods are good to me!

My Weirdest Experience:

Gee, Has to be one of the strangest ones< We were training for AC 100 one summer in the Angels Crest Forest. A night run. It was 1am. we were low on water. We came into Chialo camground and encountered a group of people who at first i thought were a church group. Not quite! They were "devil worshippers" doing their chants and things. The feelings you got from "these people" made the hair on your neck stand on end. We got our water and put in warp drive and got the (bleep)!! out of there! This ranks up there high on weird experience list as an ultra runner.

My Most Challenging Race Experience:

1. Athens, Greece to Hamburg, Germany was one. We met incredible challenges but made it through.
2.The Melburne to Syndey race was another. The course was challenging.
3. BW of course is always a challenge. Without question. Mentally the toughest for me.
4. Running around a track for 6 days also is challenging in many ways. The most scenic ultra but again challenging. It's sooo easy to get off the track and not confront it. Take breaks and waste time. These aren't nesscesarily in order. Each race is a unique challenge.

Why I Run Ultras:

The challenge of you versus the environment and course. The spiritual high you get, it's so cool. Of course it does gets me out of the house! The good people you meet are well worth it. Ultra runners are in a unique class. I have made many, many dear friends over the years who I admire greatly and respect not only as ultra runners, but as real sincere people. You come out stronger and wiser doing these events. You become a mentor and role model for many people. This is a responsibilty I have accepted as an ultra marathoner. People admire what you can do with your body. They are in awe. I have become humbled by this and never take for granted my health and ability to run these events. Personally, I feel I have helped many people not only as a runner but as a person with day to day life struggles we all face. I attribute this from my experiences as an ultrarunner and my religious convictions.

Why I want a slot on the start line of the 2003 Badwater Ultramarathon:

Well, I know I suffer in that heat. I hate pain. That is not the reason. Perhaps, the BW runners you are running with, the crew, Ben and Denise, Chris cruising on his motorcyle scouting the run, the unique and ultimate challenging environment. The feeling you have when you finish. It can't be described unless you have done BW. I want to beat my 43 hours this time. Heck, why not?

The Charity that I will represent and raise funds for is:

Yes. I will run again to help The Way To Happiness International fight crime and drugs. Sadly Los Angeles in the #1 murder capitol City in the USA. Our "Run the Crime Out of LA" in last years Badwater race did very well to help the local Los Angeles Police departments and other social reform groups. As a runner and someone who lost friends due to criminals, drugs and rapist. I will again give them my support. My duty is to help as a ultra marathoner I can contribute to a good cause. Our future our are kids.. They deserve a right to survive and make it in the world. Our web sight www.twth.org
