In association with our membership in One Percent for the Planet, we are pleased to support The Conservation Alliance as of September 10, 2008. The Conservation Alliance is an organization of outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Alliance funds have played a key role in protecting rivers, trails, wildlands and climbing areas throughout North America.

Membership in the Alliance is open to companies representing all aspects of the outdoor industry, including manufacturers, retailers, publishers, mills and sales representatives. The result is a diverse group of businesses whose livelihood depends on protecting our natural environment. Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed more than $6 million to grassroots environmental groups. Alliance funding has helped save over 39 million acres of wildlands; stop or remove 26 dams; and preserve access to more than 16,000 miles of waterways and several climbing areas.

ADVENTURECORPS JOINS 1% FOR THE PLANET

AdventureCORPS events happen not in a man-made stadium, but in the real world "out there." We care deeply about the natural world for we are intrinsically linked with it and because we want to enjoy these events in their awesome natural settings for a long, long time. As such, there has always been a strong environmental message, and effort, behind how we run our organization and produce events.

Therefore, we are extremely excited to announce that we joined One Percent For The Planet on July 1, 2008. As such, we are now donating at least 1% of total revenues (in other words, "off the top," not just 1% of profit, which would be next to nothing!) to environmental causes. This is in addition to all the work we do on behalf of, and donations we make to, our Official Charities, Challenged Athletes Foundation and Major Taylor Association, as outlined or our Charity Page.

1% For The Planet is a growing global movement 899 companies (and counting) that donate 1% of their sales to a network of 1,582 environmental organizations (and counting) worldwide. We are pleased and proud to be in such good company! More Info.

AdventureCORPS just loves Death Valley for events

By CHRISSY OHLINGER: Pahrump Valley Times

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. -- There is much more to AdventureCORPS in Death Valley than an annual "ultramarathon."

Death Valley offers the backdrop for this world-famous special event production firm to coordinate and produce endurance events practically yearr-ound.

Founded in 1984 by Chris Kostman, AdventureCORPS, Inc. describes itself as "an athlete-run firm producing and promoting ultra-endurance and extreme sports events, lifestyle and media."

Based in Oak Park, Calif., the firm produces countless events in the western states but has a special affinity for Death Valley, which it calls "Mother Nature's greatest sports arena."

On July 14, racers from all over the world competed in the AdventureCORPS Badwater Ultramarathon where contestants ran 135 miles through the summer inferno of Death Valley. The route began at Badwter and ended at the Mt. Whitney Portal.

Furnace Creek 508 is another AdventureCORPS production slated for Oct. 4-6. A very famous event in the world of endurance athletes, cyclers will race 508 miles from Santa Clarita, Calif., across the Mojave Desert and Death Valley to end in Twenty-Nine Palms. This race is touted as the "toughest 48 hours in sports."

Carried on AdventureCORPS' own momentum, the Death Valley Cup recognizes athletes who finish both the Badwater Ultramarathon and Furnace Creek 508 in the same year. Only 15 people have earned that recognition since 1996. Full Story.

MOEBEN SLEEVES: BADWATER-PROVEN, BADWATER SPONSOR

Moeben Sleeves, the UV-protecting arm sleeves for the outdoor enthusiast, were created by three-time Badwater finisher (2001, 2005, and 2006) Shannon Farar-Griefer. We are pleased to announce that Moeben Sleeves is now an Official Sponsor of the 2008 Badwater Ultramarathon.

The Moeben Sleeve provides comfort and protection from the outdoor environment and its constant change, while it helps protect wearers from the sun's harmful rays. Moeben Sleeves will keep you warm when it's cold, since the sleeve fits like a second skin, and will keep you cool when it's hot with its light fabric to keep the hot sun off of your skin.

DSC01504Personally, I take them everywhere I go. If I'm cycling, whether it's hot or cold, I wear them. I take them hiking. I keep a pair stuffed in all my bags and in my car. Moeben sleeves are an important part of my active life and they should be for yours, too!

Well, he's training in Iraq again this year, however his duties will not allow him to return for the race this July. He does, however, hope to run 135 miles there, simultaneous to the race in Death Valley.
