Attn: Jack Deness and Lisanne Dorion are 14 miles out of Lone Pine. Lisanne said "I'm going to beat this highway." They were both looking very pumped and running!

Update from Matt:

Hi everybody,

This is Matt Frederick, previous race director (96-99). Just wanted to tell all of you how pleased I am with the race. Chris and his crew are doing a great job.

It's been great to see numerous returning runners as well as a whole batch of new blood. Seeing crew members year after year and seeing some of them run the race is really rewarding.

The weather was a bit different this year. Last year we had thunder/lightning/sand storms as well as a flash flood. This year it is HOT. Headwinds up Townes pass made that climb quite difficult. There's also a forest fire on the other side of the Whitney range, some miles south of here. There's lots of smoke, a fine coat of ash has begun to fall. I'm sure that the runners are feeling the effects of that.

Ben and Denise are out here as usual. Denise just finished taping Rick Nawrocki's feet for his climb up the Whitney Portal road. At last sight, he was running with a smile on his face.

Thanks for all of your support, I can't tell you how special this race is. I encourage you to come and see it for yourself in the coming years.

Matt
