New for 2016, we are pleased to recognize Fisher Space Pen – American-made pens originally created for the space program – as the Official Pen of Badwater.
Fisher Space Pens are the most extreme writing instruments – both in and out of this world. They write upside, under water, in zero gravity, and in the most extreme cold and heat, plus they last practically forever. Both Fisher Space Pens and Badwater athletes excel in extreme conditions, so it’s a perfect match!
Founded by ten-time Badwater 135 veteran Frank McKinney, and based on the principal that “stability begins at home,” the Caring House Project Foundation provides shelter to the world’s most desperately poor and homeless people. CHPF has impacted the poorest of the poor in the countries of Haiti, Honduras, Nicargua, Indonesia and Africa. As of today 10,616 have been provided with a new concrete home, and countless more are alive because of CHPF’s efforts. In 2017 CHPF will complete its 24th self-sufficient village in Guimbi, Haiti. That’s right, 24th self-sufficient village in 21 Haitian cities in last 14 years! Thank you for all you do Frank and Nilsa!

Jeoffrey and Catherine Nathan met outside a beach restaurant in Wrightsville Beach, NC. There was a spark, and a shared love of a coastal lifestyle. In 2008, on their honeymoon, they dreamed of starting a family business, selling their favorite brands that they couldn’t find locally. That dream became a reality and Coastal Urge was born and has grown with locations in Wilmington, NC, Bald Head Island, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC. We are a family owned and operated business, focused on bringing only the best products to outfit your lifestyle.

Southport Paddle and Sail
Southport Paddle and Sail is owned and operated by George and Marybeth Ray. Both are USCG licensed captains who enjoy being on the water and sharing that with the public. They are great people and great supporters of this race!
Southport, NC is the location of the ferry terminal through which all Badwater Cape Fear runners pass on their way to Bald Head Island. But Southport is much more than a ferry town; it’s worth a visit! If you do visit, there’s no better way to appreciate Southport’s setting, and the Cape Fear River, than aboard an SUP – Stand Up Paddleboard – or boating or sailing with George and Marybeth!
During Badwater Cape Fear, you’ll meet Marybeth at the mid-beach checkpoint halfway between Cape Fear and Fort Fisher. She, George, their friend Rebecca and others set up and run that checkpoint from Marybeth’s Land Rover. They are super popular during the race, and for good reason!
